Your Crusade donations fund Exceptional Equitation

The WHAS Crusade for Children was an early champion of Kentucky’s first equine therapy program, Exceptional Equitation. Shelly Prete, the owner of the LaGrange-based farm says since 1981 the Crusade has provided funding for safety equipment and educational supplies which have allowed hundreds of children with special needs to learn and grow while enjoying the fun of riding a horse.

With its latest grant from the Crusade, Exceptional Equitation is growing itself. Now not only do youngsters learn to ride but they can learn stable management, animal care and other farm-related activities. Shelly says this vocational education approach allows children to acquire moneymaking skills that will serve them well as they become adults.

This was enjoyable to read and see after a friend of mine in Louisville, KY, sent me your link. My nine year old granddaughter was accepted into a similar program here in the Kansas City, MO, area called Jake’s Club. I bought her a protective helmet and boots, plus for her mother who walks beside the horse. She loves the feel of sitting on the horse and riding in the paddock. Due to our surplus of rainstorms this year, she learned an awful lot about grooming a horse and cleaning it’s stall. Thank you for bonding one animal to another for a life time of communion.
A grandmother who shares the love of kids and animals; that’s me.
