Events spark fundraising

June 2-3 will mark the 59th Annual WHAS Crusade for Children! Fire departments, civic groups, companies and organizations are gearing up with events to raise money for special needs children. Here are some recent highlights.

Byerly Ford donating dollars

Byerly Ford chooses the month of May ot help the Crusade! For every oil change and every tire purchased, Byerly will donate $1 to the WHAS Crusade for Children.

La Grange Kiwanis Club

Longtime supporters of the WHAS Crusade for Children, the La Grange Kiwanis Club, bring out the “Big Blue Fish Bus” every Friday at the corner of First and Jefferson Streets in La Grange. It’s your spot for lunch and dinner — open 11am to 8pm — and it’s all for the kids.

Assumption High School

Assumption High School hosted a multi-school softball tourney to raise money for children with special needs. They set a goal of $1500 and topped it!

Kids Connection

It’s an education in reading and generosity. Children from all grades at Kids Connection in Sellersburg, Indiana decided to give back and they chose children with special needs as their beneficiary.

Read these complete rules

1. The WHAS Crusade for Children will create a 15-month calendar starting October, 2012.
2. The contest is open to babies who are no older than 2 years by June 1, 2012.
3. One baby photo or CD containing baby photo with baby’s name on it must be submitted and will not be returned.
4. Parent(s) must sign a release form allowing use of baby’s image when photo is submitted.
5. Photos must be received by 4:00pm (ET) April 13, 2012.
6. All baby photos will be posted on www.WHASCrusade.org
7. The Crusade will photograph the top 16 babies for calendar publication.
8. Winners will be determined by the largest monetary donation (voting by contribution).
9. All donations must be received by 4:00pm (ET) May 24, 2012.
10. The winner will be featured on the calendar cover.
11. The second place winner gets first choice of a specific month.
12. The third place winner gets second choice of a specific month.
13. The fourth through 16th winners will get choice of the remaining months.
14. The winners finishing 17th and beyond will get choice of specific days in the year.
15. Calendars will be sold at area Kroger stores beginning September 2012.

The WHAS Crusade for Children, Inc. established in 1954 by WHAS-TV, raises money for schools, agencies and hospitals to better the lives of special needs children. In its first 58 years, the Crusade has raised more than $143 million.

Thanks to generous contributions of goods and services, the Crusade is able to return 100% of all donations to organizations that serve special needs children in all 120 Kentucky counties and more than 50 southern Indiana counties. Fire departments raise more than 50 percent of the money each year by staging road blocks and other events.
