Crusade receives $422,000 gift

A Southern Indiana couple has surprised the WHAS Crusade for Children with an amazing gift of more than $400,000.

Kay Allen, Baker family spokesperson said, “Self-sacrifice is what it was. Doing without things they could have needed and used to save this money.”

Sherald and Dorothy Baker were married during World War II. As members of the greatest generation they saw the value in saving. Since they never had children of their own, they instructed their family to make sure their estate of $422,988.38 went to the Crusade.

Today, Sherald’s brother Delton, his wife Margaret and niece Kay officially presented the money to Crusade CEO Dawn Lee.
