Hundreds attend Joe Huber Memorial Concert

The seats were full. The place was jumpin’! It was the 3rd Annual Joe Huber Memorial Concert at the Joe Huber Family Farm and Restaurant in Starlight, Indiana on Sunday, August 21, 2011.

With a suggested donation of $20 per person, more than $7,000 was raised for the WHAS Crusade for Children Endowment. Master of ceremonies Wayne Perkey introduced Bonnie Huber, Crusade CEO Dawn Lee and musical entertainers for the afternoon, The Marlins.

The Marlins kept it hoppin’!

Hundreds enjoyed a delicious lunch (Huber style!) and were entertained by The Marlins – and not just the usual four-brother-Marlins – but two other brothers came to town as did two nephews and a niece! This family Marlin played three sets, took requests and really didn’t want to stop. At one point, Gary Marlin said, “Excuse us folks, we’re just making this up as we go along.” No one knew the better as the Marlins cranked out favorite after favorite with hits ranging from Kool & The Gang to Gordon Lightfoot.

The Marlins recognized and played tribute to both Joe Huber and their father Sleepy Marlin who passed away earlier this year. Sleepy, the patriarch of this musical family, was a regular on WHAS-TV and radio in the 1950’s and 60’s.

Tribute to Sleepy Marlin

Listen and watch as Jack Marlin plays the fiddle in tribute to his dad. Sleepy was a international award winning fiddle player in his time.

Huber family longtime Crusade supporters

The Huber family has supported the WHAS Crusade for decades. A few years ago, they established the Joe Huber Memorial Garden as a Crusade fundraiser. Their endless support grows every year.
