The man who designed the iconic logo for the WHAS Crusade for Children has passed away. Dave Dumeyer died on Sunday.

He received the Buddy Award at the 51st Crusade in 2004.

A World War II veteran, Dumeyer was the art director here at WHAS11 for 32 years and was an integral part of the Crusade for its first 50 years.

He even has a Crusade brick named for him outside the WHAS11 studios downtown.

Dumeyer’s son said health reasons didn’t allow him to participate in recent crusades but he was always watching, even the 60th Crusade just a week ago.

David Dumeyer Junior was 5-years-old when his father drew the silhouette of him in 1957 and he is the little boy who became the Crusade logo we still see today.

Dave Dumeyer’s funeral is at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Highlands Funeral Home on Taylorsville Road. He’ll be buried at Cave Hill Cemetery.

The Dumeyer family is asking that all expressions of sympathy be made to the WHAS Crusade for Children.
