For more than 60 years, the WHAS Crusade for Children has granted 100 percent of donated funds go to help children with special needs.

The Crusade is able to make this happen because of its endowment.

On Saturday night, December 14, 2013 a special WHAS11 90-minute program entitled “Building the Future” was hosted by WHAS11’s Melissa Swan and 84WHAS Radio’s Terry Meiners. The program explained the Crusade Endowment and how it helps grow the Crusade assuring 100 percent of donated funds can continue to make life better for children with special needs.

A basketball autographed by University of Louisville Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino was won by Mary Jo Bartley of Bardstown (see her photo below). Mary Jo’s name was entered into a drawing with other donors who contributed $100 or more during the program.

Andy Treinen, Ben Pine and Chelsea Rabideau of WHAS11 News hosted segments of the program interviewing people who have been helped by the Crusade for Children.
