Grants presentation in Adair County
WHAS Crusade for Children President & CEO Dawn Lee presented $222,863.00 in Crusade grants to 14 south central Kentucky agencies that serve children with special needs. Those 14 grants range from $3,500 to $54,280 and will fund everything from hippotherapy to technology for children with hearing loss.
This year 15 fire departments that collect in that region collected a total of $150,286.
This luncheon at Lindsey Wilson College was an opportunity to celebrate those who volunteer to fulfill the Crusade’s mission of serving children with special needs across the commonwealth of Kentucky and southern Indiana.

Crusade awards 230 grants
Crusade awards 100 percent of $5,465,933.47 collected this year to agencies
in Kentucky and Southern Indiana
Agencies, hospitals and schools across Kentuckiana that serve children with special needs are getting some great news from the WHAS Crusade for Children this week.
The Crusade sent out grant letters this week to 202 organizations to let them know their grant requests will be funded from the $5,465,933.47 collected during the 63rd annual WHAS Crusade for Children telethon. The 30-hour broadcast aired on WHAS11 television, 840WHAS radio and worldwide on WHAS11.com during the weekend of June 4 and 5. It is America’s most successful local telethon.
“The WHAS Crusade for Children is thrilled to be awarding 230 grants this year, which is an increase over last year. The ministerial advisory panel made some difficult decisions this year, as the requests were more than double the amount raised. They selected terrific projects and programs that will improve the lives of children with special needs across Kentucky and Southern Indiana, ranging from small communication devices to large capital projects,” WHAS Crusade for Children President & CEO Dawn Lee said.
One-hundred percent of the $5.46 million collected this year was awarded in the form of 230 grants to 202 agencies, hospitals and schools throughout the state of Kentucky and southern Indiana. This is the most grants awarded by the WHAS Crusade for Children in recent years.
